Save The Orangutans in collaboration with WWF

This project was conceptualized to raise funds for the conservation of the Orangutans. Through the fundraising activity carried out, we managed to raise RM3500 for the conservation funds. This employer project was a collaborative assignment that was carried out by the entire class of Environmental Issues and was spearheaded by our lecturer Miss Uma. My role in this project was as a treasurer and the acting assistant leader. Our goal was to create content to raise awareness about the extinction of the orangutan species. We also hoped to raise funds for the conservation efforts carried out by Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation. We conducted our fundraising activity through an event where we sold food, henna art, tote bags and conducted games. This project is one of the closest to my heart because it was aimed at helping an endangered species. Thankfully, we were able to raise quite a significant sum and raise awareness through the use of Facebook and Instagram posts.

Save The Orangutans in collaboration with WWF

This project was incredibly meaningful as we were made aware of how important our efforts were in helping save the orangutans. The fact that orangutans are the most intelligent primates is a fact that most people are aware of, through this project we were able to understand exactly how meaningful this was. On this trip, we saw that orangutans could make their own tools for food and were aware of their daily schedules and the patterns of their day. We even learned that they are able to imprint upon the humans that raised them, although this meant they could never live in the wild again because they have become too accustomed to the humans in their lives. We met orangutans that needed a little help as they were born different from their peers and we were able to see how precious every life was to the conservationists. Every moment of this project was a learning moment, and the knowledge that the Bornean orangutan population had declined 50% at the time came as a shock to each of us. This knowledge made filled us with zeal and determination, to help in any way we could, be it big or small.

Batik Rennaisance in collaboration with Maryam Samirah Shamsuddin

This project was meant to spread awareness of the uniqueness of batik around the world. Preserving batik is important as it is connected to the roots of our ancestry. Many people only see the patterns without truly appreciating the history, process and people behind this gorgeous art form. This project was divided into three sections; A magazine, website and newspaper article. Our employer was Maryam Samirah Shamsuddin the managing director of Cotton On + SAGO. The employer project was spearheaded by Mr Faizal our lecturer for our Exploring World Culture Through Mass Media course. This project was conceptualized with the hope that batik, particularly batik made in Malaysia would receive more attention. The employer Miss Maryam was looking for fresh concepts to incorporate into her latest efforts of introducing batik fashion into modern fashion. Therefore, the students put together materials that both highlighted and differentiated the uniqueness of Malaysian Batik.

Black & White Film,
"Come With Me"

This short film was amongst one of the first I have ever directed. It was meant to have a noir theme and was a silent film. Silent films are amongst the hardest to direct due to the lack of dialogues. Therefore, everything needs to be directed in a way that can be understood based on the expressions and gestures of the actors. The process of directing a film is pretty similar to that of making art, first a general theme for the film itself and then a storyboard needs to be drafted to gauge the number of scenes needed in a film. After the storyboard is completed, the filming process begins. After the filming of all the scenes is completed, the editing process of piecing the video together starts and then once that is completed the final process of adding the background music begins. After all the elements are finalized, the filmwork is finally completed. This entire process took me an entire month, particularly because this was one of the first times I had directed and filmed a complete short movie by myself.

Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra Field Trip

The final assignment for the course Appreciation and History of Music required a field trip to the MPO. After completing the field trip we were meant to write a reflection about our visit, needless to say, it was magical. This project was given to us by Mr Eddy for the Appreciation and History of Music course in hopes that every student in the class could appreciate classical music for its beauty. As an avid fan of classical music, this was by far the most exciting project I have ever taken part in. This project was unique due to the requirement of the assignment, we were asked to attend a concert in the MPO and write a reflection about every piece played in the concert. Due to the reflection, each and every one of us listened to the music more intently and tried to understand the composer's mind and emotions reflected in the music. I believe this was truly a lifechanging moment for me, as I was able to finally put into words that which I always felt.
